As president of the UH Alumni Association Foundation Board, I am honored to represent our devout alumni base and help advance the continued growth of the University of Houston. To that end, this election has the potential to impact the future of the University of Houston more than ever. On your ballot is Proposition 5, the constitutional amendment creating the Texas University Fund (TUF), a permanent state-supported endowment that will benefit the University of Houston. I encourage you to visit the UH Alumni Association Foundation Advocacy website and review Proposition 5: Texas University Fund.
Early voting in Texas began Monday October 23rd and ends Friday November 3rd, with Election Day on Tuesday November 7th.
If authorized by Texas voters, the TUF will be a $3.9 billion permanent endowment, exclusively targeting four universities who have met high standards of academic excellence: Texas Tech University, Texas State University, University of North Texas and the University of Houston. It will provide these four research universities the funds necessary to achieve national prominence, provide premier educational opportunities for more top students in our state, and help drive the state’s economy through investment in critical research.
Additionally, the Fund is dedicated to bolstering research, faculty excellence and post-graduate study at these institutions, ensuring more Texas graduates can fill high paying jobs, reducing the state’s reliance on out-of-state and international talent.
For the University of Houston, a ranking among the Top 50 Public Universities is achievable with this financial boost, a realization of the vision we all have for our university.
Most importantly for taxpayers, the Fund was created without also imposing new taxes or requiring an additional future tax burden.
Together as UH alumni, we can collectively impact the direction of our beloved university ensuring that the University of Houston is recognized as one of the nation’s most prestigious public higher educational institutions. Thank you for your continued dedication to the University of Houston and for being an active part of our robust alumni community.
Sincerely,
Michael Sachs (’97) President, UH Alumni Association Foundation Board
